“Daizenshuu EX” In The Media

OK, so “media” is somewhat laughable when you consider the source this is coming out of, but let’s be honest… seeing your site mentioned in print, no matter what that print form may be, is a pretty awesome thing.

We are cleaning out a few things in the apartment as we get ready to eventually move into the new house, and I have been pulling together all of the various magazines I have sitting around. I came across this:

Back in March 2001, an issue of Beckett DragonBall Collector had a two-page column called “DBZ Online”. It was mostly a feature about FUNimation’s official DBZ website, but the very end of the column had a little box for other (fan-created) websites that fans could visit. Lookie, here! What’s that second site listed…?!

Again, it’s laughable when you consider the source and the companion link (“Da Black Gohan”? Really? This is where you want to send people?)… but you can’t help but smile to see your stuff given some attention somewhere.

These Beckett magazines were always of dubious quality, even though a couple halfway-authoritative people signed on to do some translation and writing work. For example, in this particular issue, Greg Werner (of The Ultimate DBZ Info Site) wrote articles about DragonBall GT (two years before it would be mentioned by FUNimation in the US) and a follow-up translation of the timelines featured in the daizenshuu and Perfect File books.

Long story short, it was great to find the magazine again and get a decent scan up online so I won’t lose it. I wonder if the people on Wikipedia working on the DBZ articles will now consider Daizenshuu EX a credible source since it’s been listed/featured as an authoritative reference in a media source. *insert snarky smirk here*

    Wow! I use to have this particular beckett, along with many other DBZ and Yugioh becketts too. I passed over this particular section (insert laughter) for reasons unknown or forgotten.
    It’s ironic that Daizenshuu is still here all these years, even though I’ve only been posting for about a year and following the home page for about four or five years.
    I’m gonna go see if I can grab this magazine somewhere online.

    People on Wikipedia? We already do. Since a long ass time ago. However, the “taskforce” currently isn’t as active as it used to. Maybe you could help out. If you rather not put up with all of Wikipedia’s guidelines and junk why not join our DragonBall Wiki? http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

    It currently consists of a few members from the DragonBall taskforce/wikiproject on Wikipedia. We try to keep the site as accurate as possible and we definitely could use your extensive knowledge. Just check the site out. Hope you and everyone else at Daizex.com consider it.

    Hey there! If I had the time to join up with Wikipedia task forces and stuffage, that would infer I have the time to do all that stuff for my own website ^_~.

    Anyway, it’s just a play on something I was joking about with Hujio of “Kanzentai” a while ago. I randomly came across some discussion on a Wikipedia page from a couple people going back and forth on whether or not our sites were worthy of inclusion as references due to them being “fansites” and the owners (us) not actually being professionals in the field, blah blah blah. That’s all entirely true, of course, and I have no problem with it. I just find it kinda funny that what I would argue are the two most important and relevant DBZ sites today can’t be considered authoritative enough to cite according to the rules.

    Oh wow. I hadn’t noticed that. Yeah Wikipedia can be like that. What about the DragonBall Wiki at Wikia.com? http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

    We are unrelated to Wikipedia in terms of its strict guidelines and all of that mumbo jumbo. There are only a few active members there. Hell, at least Julian might have some time on his hands. ^_~ I’ve seen him around Wikipedia. Anyway, at least consider the DragonBall Wiki… Hehe

    Now that you’ve mentioned it, just to be safe… (rules/mumbo jumbo) Is it alright if the DragonBall Wiki links to your related sites?

    Hah, that old daizex URL takes me back! If I remember correctly that’s where the shortlived second daizex forum was too, before the current incarnation of it.

    I never did own any of the beckett magazines, but I remember when I first saw them I felt the fandom had somehow “made it”. It’s probably hard for modern DBZ fans to remember, or even know, but there was a time where finding DBZ merchandise of any kind was hard to come by. xD
